About

Us

Northeast Michigan

Our Calling for

In a region as vast and rural as ours—6,630 square miles of forests, farmland, lakeshore communities, and small towns—a safe, affordable home is not a luxury. It is a lifeline. And for too many families, seniors, veterans, and working individuals across Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, Oscoda, and Presque Isle counties, that lifeline is increasingly difficult to reach.

For more than 35 years, Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan has been working to change that. We build homes. We preserve homes. We strengthen communities. Most importantly, we help ensure that people can continue to call Northeast Michigan home.

Why We Exist

Our Mission

Who We Serve

We believe that decent shelter is a human need—not a privilege.

Every person deserves a safe, warm, and dignified place to live, regardless of income, age, or circumstance.

Yet throughout Northeast Michigan, affordable housing options remain limited. Aging homes fall into disrepair. Fixed-income seniors struggle to maintain the homes they've lived in for decades. Young families find themselves priced out of homeownership opportunities.

In many of the communities we serve, Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan is the only organization actively developing affordable homeownership opportunities while also preserving existing housing through repair and accessibility programs.

That is a responsibility we carry with urgency.

Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan is part of a global nonprofit housing organization founded on Christian principles that seeks to put God's love into action by building homes, communities, and hope.

We work alongside families, community partners, supporters, and donors to create housing solutions that strengthen lives and preserve the future of Northeast Michigan.

Because when families have stable housing, children perform better in school, seniors remain healthier and more independent, and communities become stronger. A home changes everything that comes after it.

Every story is different.

A young family searching for stability.

A veteran trying to remain independent.

A senior homeowner facing repairs they can no longer afford.

A resident with mobility challenges who simply needs a safe way to enter and exit their home.

These are not statistics. They are our neighbors. Every project we complete represents a family that can remain safe, independent, and connected to the community they love.

All Are Welcome

Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan has an open-door policy. We welcome people of all backgrounds, faiths, ages, abilities, races, and perspectives to support our mission and strengthen our communities. We serve families based on need and do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, age, political beliefs, or any other difference that too often divides people. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity does not proselytize. We do not offer assistance on the condition that anyone adopt or adhere to a particular faith. Our commitment is simple: to serve our neighbors with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Looking Forward

Every home we build. Every repair we complete. Every family we serve. These are investments in the future of Northeast Michigan. We will continue showing up—with our partners, supporters, staff, and faith—for every family, in every county, across every mile of this extraordinary region.

Because the work is not finished
until everyone has a safe place to call home.
